Accommodations

Throughout Tanzania and Kenya, you will find a host of african safari accommodations, with properties to suit all individual tastes and budgets.  If camping is your priority, there are camps that will meet your needs, from the basic to the more luxurious, if it's a lodge (small hotel in the bush), there are many that will suit your needs.  If it's high end luxury, there are many properties that will pamper you and offer amenities that you could never imagine.  Some areas may even have fly-camping camps or sky beds.  If you can imagine it, most likely you can find it or someone will create the atmosphere you want.  Africa is a place of dreams.

Here are some of the African Safari accommodations you may find yourself staying in Tanzania and Kenya.  I recently discovered two hidden gems, Siringit Golf Retreat and Nimali. Both will be properties to meet your every need and will be offered on specific safaris, designed by Destined To Travel.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

  • Day 1: Arrive in Arusha, The Gateway to Your Safari.

The bustling city of Arusha has excellent places to stay and eat. For the most part, it is lush, green and enjoys a temperate climate throughout the year. Arusha is the starting point of many safaris or memorable cultural tours.

  • DAY 2: SHOPPING AND VISIT TO LOCAL CHILDREN’S HOME

Explore all that Tanzania has to offer, from trinkets to beautiful and unique pieces made by well-known artists and sculptors. This is only place where Tanzanite is mined and found, and we’ll be sure to stop and take a look at which of these beautiful stones you will bring home, as a memory of your trip.

You can also visit UAACC Leaders of Tomorrow Children’s home, which was created in 2008 to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children within the community.

  • DAYS 3-4: TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Home to some of the largest baobab trees, Tarangire is one of the more seasonal parks in northern Tanzania with a lot of migratory movement within the greater Tarangire ecosystem. In the dry season, between June and October, large herds of animals are attracted to the Tarangire River. Herds of up to 300 elephants can be found, looking for underground streams, in the dry riverbeds while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons.

  • DAYS 5-6: STAYING AT THE COUNTRY LODGE

Stretching for 50 km along the base of the rusty-gold 600-metre high Rift Valley escarpment, Lake Manyara is a scenic gem. From the entrance gate, the road winds through an expanse of lush jungle-like groundwater forest where hundred-strong baboon troops lounge nonchalantly along the roadside, blue monkeys scamper nimbly between the ancient mahogany trees, dainty bushbuck tread warily through the shadows, and outsized forest hornbills honk cacophonously in the high canopy

  • DAYS 7-8: SERENGETI SOPA

The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest on earth. The essential features of climate, vegetation and fauna have barely changed in the past million years. 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back.

Nearly 2 million Wildebeest travel through a variety of parks, reserves and protected areas and through a variety of habitat.

  • DAY 9: ACACIA FARM LODGE

Acacia is located in the city of Karatu where you will spend your last night in luxury. Bring your swimsuit, the pool is grandiose.

  • DAY 10: LAST MINUTE SHOPPING AND FAREWELL LUNCH

As we depart we will make a few final shopping trips to complete your last-minute shopping. Our farewell lunch is held at one of the few select locations that will please your palette, where they only deal with organizations that provide fair employment conditions to staff which must include a fair salary and related conditions, not always enjoyed in the developing world.

A safari is always filled with surprises, so what you see here may not be what you’ll see on yours. You might see drama not pictured here, or you may have an entirely different sighting that no one has seen.  On any safari, you will be able to write your own stories about the photos you take.  Your photographs are memories of the mind and every photograph and every thought about it will be yours, and yours alone.

As you peruse these photos, imagine yourself there, in front of it, in awe of the picture unfolding in front of you.  We hope you will join us soon.  Destined To Travel is continuously adding photos and videos, so please, do visit often.
